The church of Notre Dame des Anges in Collioure is easy to spot, clinging to a huge rock and = resting on an old lighthouse on the port of Collioure. The tower in which its bell tower is located is in fact an old lighthouse from the Middle Ages.
The church, whose southern gothic style is already impressive, is completely surrounded by the sea on three sides.
The construction of the church began in 1684 and was not completed until 1691 to replace the original church on the heights of Collioure, which had been demolished under the orders of Vauban. But it was not until almost 100 years later that the tower was covered with a dome to give it a more church-like appearance.
